There’s something about warm weather that puts me in a festive mood- I should be sun-tanning on a beach, sipping on ice cold granite already, but unfortunately for the next few months, I will just have to suck it up and wait (sigh). Spring/summer means more parties, more going out, more lunch dates, and for me a welcomed excuse to refresh my wardrobe. I’ve closely been following the SS17 runways from all around the world, and have already refreshed my wardrobe accordingly. In general SS17 is a mixture of bold prints, vibrant stripes, bare shoulders, fancy embellishments, and cute feminine ruffles. Here’s a list of five my favourite trends that I have added to my wardrobe this season. MY FIVE FAVOURITE SPRING SUMMER TRENDS 2017: Vibrant Stripes This trend has been parade all over the runways vertically, horizontally, basically in every way imaginable, from monochrome stripes to graphic stripes and even colourful stripes-Personally I used to find stripes a little tacky, and if worn wrongly this trend can look tacky and cheap. But if you find the right balance, a great looking stripe piece can add statement or subtle style to any outfit. Ways to wear stripes this season with looking tacky: Romantic Ruffles If you are a fashionista like myself (hair flip), than you would know that this trend was around last season, and is certainly extending its popularity into 2017- I just can’t get enough of this trend. Ruffles are romantic, girly and right up my alley, I love mixing very feminine pieces with edgy pieces. This trend can be incorporated into your look with smaller ruffles in blouses, shirts, sundresses and for more a more dramatic look you can add pieces with larger ruffles. Ways to wear ruffles this season: Statement Tee’s I had first seen this trend of striking statement being made on a simple T-shirt during Christian Dior SS17 fashion show (and literally jumped up and down with excitement)-I thought to myself what a great way to empower through fashion. Many other brands also embraced the trend and help create an optimistic view of women, which created a strong political campaign of feminism. Some of the most notable statements for me were, House of Holland’s “Free to Roam”, Christian Dior’s “We Should All Be Feminists”, Stella McCartney’s “No Leather and No Fur” and Haider Ackermann’s “Be Your Own Hero” and “Silent Soldier”. Now ladies your voice and thoughts can be heard through a chatty statement tee. This trend is one of the simplest trends to wear this season, and makes for the perfect street style look. Ways to wear your chatty tees: Something Yellow Yellow had a moment on the runaways. Bold shades of sunflower, banana and even acidic yellow are everywhere. A lot of you are probably like “are being serious now Yodha, do you really like this trend” to be honest I actually love yellow-I probably wouldn’t wear a bright yellow dress, and opt for a pastel yellow dress instead, and that’s the trick when a colour trend is developed, it’s not about following the trend to the tee, but adapting the trend to you as individually taking into account, your skin colour and personal style. I am aware that a lot of people don’t look great in yellow for various reasons maybe you not choosing the right shade or you don’t like the colour. The easiest way to incorporate this colour into your outfits, if you don’t want to war full on yellow would be with yellow accessorises, the colour will add a pop to your outfit making you fashionably stand outfit from the crowd. Ways to wear yellow mellow: Cold shoulder I’m super excited to see that the off shoulder trend hasn’t died off, it’s one of my ultimate favourite trends for SS17.This season the off the shoulder trend continues to be staple in my wardrobe and should be one in yours too. This trend is comfort and easy to wear and showing a little shoulder and your killer collar bones is just so sexy- at least I think so. You can incorporated the off the shoulder into you look in various ways, from tops, crop tops, dress, and body suits. Ways to wear the cold shoulder trend: One of the greatest wonders of fashion is that trends can be gone in the blink of an eye, I like to say that fashion trends play a continuous game of ‘now you see me now you don’t”. Last year runaways were filled with many velvet pieces and fringe, this year they seem to have disappeared. If you like you me, you’ll simply push the out-dated trends to the back of your closets hoping they come back, or simply toss them-I know tossing out once loved trends can be really hard, but then again remember the fashionista instead of you. Remember it’s not about fashion is about style, you can buy trendy pieces, but always style them according to who you are, own who you are, showcase your individuality to through fashion.
